At Project Say Something, we believe that resistance is rooted in knowledge and that the stories we carry shape the movements we build. That’s why we’re thrilled to introduce a new literary series curated by our very own Lee Murkley: Lee’s Radical Reading Room.
Each week, we’ll spotlight one book that digs deep into systems of power, race, resistance, abolition, identity, and liberation. These books are both reading materials and tools for transformation. They challenge, provoke, and invite us to see the world more clearly so we can fight for a better one.
This series is more than a book club. It’s a practice of radical study. It’s a return to critical thought. It’s an invitation to build your own archive of resistance, one book at a time.
As Lee puts it:

“In a world where books are banned, history is rewritten, and truth is distorted, your personal archive is your rebellion. They can’t burn what you carry in your mind and your spirit. Every book you read becomes part of your map, guiding you, grounding you, preparing you for what’s ahead.”
In a world where disinformation runs rampant, where censorship is creeping, and where Black, Brown, queer, and radical voices are often silenced, our personal archives become sacred. What we read, remember, and reflect on becomes armor, becomes vision, becomes fuel for the fire.
Each book recommendation will come with a brief reflection and context from the Project Say Something team, connecting the themes of the text to our collective struggle here in Alabama and beyond.
What to Expect:
A new book recommendation every week
Thoughtful write-ups connecting the text to our movement work
Reflections from Lee and other members of the PSS team
Opportunities to share what you're reading and how it's moving you
Whether you’re a seasoned scholar or someone just beginning your political reading journey, Lee’s Radical Reading Room is for you.
Follow along. Read deeply. Build your archive. And let’s get free.
