A civil rights group in the Shoals says it will keep fighting to remove a confederate statue at the Lauderdale County courthouse.
This comes after Florence leaders unanimously voted Tuesday to amend the city's parades and protests rules.
Earlier this year, members of Project Say Something sued the city of Florence. The group said the city violated their first amendment rights when it required them to get a parade permit for a protest.
Project Say Something says it agreed to drop the lawsuit if city leaders amended their rules.
Florence city leaders were also expected to vote on changes to the city's noise ordinance, but they decided to hold off on their decision Tuesday night.
After Tuesday’s city council meeting, Co-Deputy Director of Project Say Something Unique Dunston spoke to WAAY 31.
Dunston said, “We're back to square one, the monument is still up. But now we can protest again, we can use our voice. So, in a way that's what makes it a small win. Because now we're able to protest and use our freedom of speech from the first amendment, the way it was intended to be used. But the big issue is still there, which is the monument."
