Mo Brooks a conservative firebrand and staunch supporter of former President Donald Trump who came under fire for remarks preceding the attack on the U.S. Capitol, has joined the Alabama GOP primary field to replace Sen. Richard Shelby.
Brooks has been criticized, and two House Democrats have proposed he be censured by Congress for his fiery speech at the pro-Trump rally before the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.
He is quoted saying “Today is the day that American patriots start taking down names and kicking ass” at the Save America rally.
Here Mo Brooks’ is deliberately attempting to mislead his base by playing on their perceived loss of power and political influence. He weaponized whiteness and patriotism to create his own personal army of Trump supporters who are willing to do his bidding in order to preserve the cult of white supremacy.
This was a violent act that undermines the democracy that his followers believe that they are fighting for and ironically exemplifies the kind of “fascism” he accuses the left of demonstrating in their protest of summer 20202. His platform does not seek to serve the people but instead is built on a conspiracy, white nationalism, fear mongering, and an overall foundation of lies.
Project Say Something demands Mo Brooks be held accountable for his threats to democracy, public gaslighting, and support of reactionary white supremacy groups.
